Time to review your goals

Robyn Simpson - Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Well it is February already and how are you going with your New Year's goals? If you didn't set any at the beginning of the year there is no reason why you can't start setting some new goals today.

Keeping on track with your goals can be challenging. I have found the following things work well.  Even though some of them you do at the beginning of your goal setting process - its helps to review them periodically.

1. Get really clear on your goal - it needs to be clear enough for you to be able to explain it to someone else so they understand what you are going to achieve.

2. Work systematically - yes attaining goals requires constant attention and every little bit counts.

3. Notice what is holding you back - identify limiting beliefs, behaviours and patterns and change them to more empowering ones.

4. Learn new information and skills - identify what else you need to learn to reach your goals, then research where to find that information.

5. Have a sounding board for your ideas - choose a friend or your partner to bounce your ideas off. They may have a useful perspective you haven't though about. They may also be able to give you feedback to help you unblock areas where you might be stuck.

6. Acknowledge your success - there's no need to wait until you have achieved the big goal - notice what you are achieving daily to help you reach it and stay motivated.

7. Be accountable and honest about how dedicated you are to your goal and taking the actions daily - if you are not completely inspired by the idea, write down what inspires you about it - list at least 10 big things that really excite you.

8. Take regular action - small steps regularly are easier then large leaps infrequently.

Have a great week reviewing your goals and perhaps even setting some new ones.

The Key To Personal Freedom...

Robyn Simpson - Tuesday, November 29, 2011

100% personal responsibility, 100% of the time Wow! Big call–yes, yet such a simple concept.  The beauty is almost all humans have the ability to take 100% responsibility for themselves 100% of the time.

Whether you are a pauper on the streets or a wealthy aristocrat, or anyone in between you have the power to choose 100% responsibility for yourself and have some influence on how your life happens.  No person has more of an advantage than another person.

What is 100% responsibility?
What I am referring to here is your ability, in fact your choice, to take responsibility for how you think about things and the attitudes you choose.

Imagine how free you can feel when you take 100% responsibility for all of your choices and decisions.  This is the key to personal freedom.  When you know in your heart you are responsible for yourself on all levels, you can tap into a feeling of internal freedom that no one can take from you.  When you commit to 100% responsibility 100% of the time you will experience a much less stressful life.  From this place, you can manifest what you want in life more easily.  Life becomes more in flow, easy, fluid.

I remember why I started my first business, many years ago.  At the time I was working for a large corporate.  I had worked for several companies and different bosses, and didn’t enjoy the rigid structures I had to work within.  I felt that most of my results were out of my control because of the boundaries I had to work within.  Unfortunately I had the experience of working for a boss who enjoyed taking credit for what others did well and chastising them for anything that didn’t.  I decided that I wanted to take personal responsibility for my results – good or otherwise.  I started a marketing consultancy company and never looked back.  Today I can’t imagine working for someone else.  I love the freedom of being able to take 100% responsibility for my results no matter what they are.

The same applies in our personal lives.  When you decide to take 100% responsibility for who you are, where you want to go and your actions you experience a beautiful sense of personal freedom.  There is no blame, because you have chosen a particular thought, action or decision.  The people who experience life the most are those who take responsibility and learn the lessons as they walk through life, versus the people who choose to blame external influences for the hand they are dealt.  The latter group miss the lessons and miss out on some of the gems in life.

Nobody else can make this choice for you
Thoughts and attitudes are internal processes therefore you are the only person who can choose them.  Alternatively, you can choose to allow others to influence you.  Again, that is your choice.

It is futile to waste time and energy on blaming others for your situation and results.  You are where you are in life because of all of the choices you have made up to this moment.

As discussed in Chapter 3 of the book 'Attitude, Aptitude, Altitude—Choose your 'Tude!' you cannot not make a choice.  Choosing to do nothing is still making a choice.  Choosing to live life at the peril of external forces, blaming your situation on other things or people outside yourself is a choice.

Some people appear to have a charmed life where everything happens as they intend it.  Some call this lucky.  However it is in fact their choice.  They have chosen positive intentions, thoughts and actions, which result in creating what they want.  These people are not attached to a rigid outcome because they know they will create a positive result.  If their result is not 100% exactly as they imagined it to be, it will be close and therefore they can relax and enjoy the outcome.

Whether you are aware of it or not, you ultimately take 100% responsibility for your choices 100% of the time because your results are determined by your choices, subconsciously or consciously.  You are the product of your choices.  As such you have to live with your self as you have created it through the choices you have made.

Affirmations:
I am grateful for the strength, courage and openness to live my desired life
I receive everything I deserve graciously and easily
I take 100% responsibility for my thoughts, beliefs, words and actions
I am open to my full potential on all levels

Can you think of some of your own?

New places, new spaces and new adventures

Robyn Simpson - Monday, May 23, 2011

A funny thing occurred to me the other day while preparing to go to New Zealand.  Life is like a flight – you get fueled up and ready to go, and when you’re ready, you take off, soaring to incredible heights.  You eventually land in a new place, new space and new adventure.  And the great news is you’re able to do it again and again, simply decide where you want to go and take off!

That's exactly what happens with our goals... we decide what we want, get ready and head off in that direction.  We learn more with every step and we take our selves to places we've never been to before, experiencing things that are new, challenging and exciting.  When we land we are in a different place because of the learning we have had.  And when we're ready, we can choose our next goal.

So where are you heading?  What's your next goal?  What's your next adventure?

Please fasten your seat belt and put your tray table away… we're ready for take off.  Join Robyn Simpson at the 30-Day 'Tude Challenge on Face Book - it's complementary and a huge amount of fun and inspiration!

Changing Limiting Beliefs to Empowering Beliefs

Robyn Simpson - Monday, March 07, 2011
What is a belief?
A belief is simply a repeated thought.  Some are empowering, and others are disempowering.

Because we have long held beliefs, they can seem very real to us.  When we take a moment to look at them we often find that they are no longer supportive or true.  Most people don't take the time to clear up unsupportive beliefs and continue to run their lives on autopilot at the whim of their old beliefs.

Why is it important to clear up beliefs?
If you find yourself repeating behaviours that generate less then useful results, you are probably working from a limiting belief.  People generally want to operate at their best, so in order to do that, we need to clear out limiting beliefs and choose some new empowering ones.

Points to note about beliefs:
  • They are not always true, they often seem real because they have been with us for some time.
  • They can be changed to an empowering belief.
  • They can run our lives without us being aware of them if we don't take the time to work with them.
  • They are a personal thing, what seems important to me may be totally irrelevant or insignificant to you.
How do we change a belief?
There are some simple processes we can use to change limiting beliefs.
We will be examing these in the 'Tude E-coaching program in greater detail.  The intensity of beliefs is very personal, it is important that you decide for yourself what your limiting beliefs are and how deeply they sit.

Here are the first steps to changing your beliefs.  We cannot give you the full process as we recommend only qualified practitioners take you through it:
  1. Identify your limiting belief and state it clearly
  2. Check whether it is useful in any way or any situation
  3. If it's not useful, we can change it completely, if it is useful in some situations, we can keep it for those and change it for situations where it is limiting.
  4. Notice whether the belief is still true for you.  Do you know when you decided to believe it?
For some beliefs it is simply a matter of being aware that it is no longer true, and this allows you to let it go easily.

For deeper or more emotionally charged beliefs we recommend you do a Belief Change process with a qualified practitioner to ensure the process is completed safely and with ecology.

Examples of beliefs we can help you with include:
  • I'm not good with money
  • I'm not good at anything
  • I'm not good at relationships
  • Relationships never work out for me
  • I'm not a good learner
  • Nobody loves me
  • I always come last
  • I'm not popular
  • I'm not a good person
  • I'm a procrastinator
  • I never finish anything
  • I'm not wealthy
  • I'm not confident
  • And the list goes on...
There are so many beliefs we hold onto, as adults many of us still hold onto beliefs from our childhood.  A simple belief like 'I'm not good enough' can manifest itself in all areas of our lives, creating a web of other limiting beliefs.  These can take some untangling in order to uncover and shift the original belief.

If you would like to eliminate your limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering ones, book an appointment or contact us for more information.

Freedom by Choice

Robyn Simpson - Monday, February 28, 2011

Freedom by Choice

Freedom means different things to different people.  Take a moment to consider what freedom means to you.  You may be closer to achieving it than you think.

I used to think freedom was something I needed to work towards.  My career has been focused around creating freedom, or so I thought.  There was a constant striving to move towards my idea of freedom.  Recently I learnt to look at life from a different perspective and discovered the freedom I have already created.

Freedom is often sought in order for people to be happy.  You may be familiar with the phrase ‘I’ll be happy when…’ this indicates the speaker perceives there is something missing in their life, and they can potentially overlook all that is good until they get the thing they are waiting for.  Unfortunately many make freedom so difficult to achieve, they never seem to reach it.

We all have our own definition of freedom based on our values.  For example, I feel free being able to work from anywhere.  I feel free doing work I love, and taking time out when I want to.  I feel free playing music; and spending time with friends and family.  I especially feel free when I’m walking on the beach.

What does freedom mean to you?  When do you lose yourself?  What are you doing?  Where are you?  Who are you with?  That is your freedom.  Take a pen and paper and write down what freedom means to you.  Make it easy to achieve so you can experience it regularly.  Now you can choose to build this into your months, weeks and days.  If freedom equals happiness to you, doesn’t it make sense to make it easily achievable?

Freedom is a choice, a state of mind.  Even under incredibly restricting and negative circumstances Viktor Frankl chose to be free in his mind while being held captive in a concentration camp.  "The last of human freedoms is the ability to choose one's attitude in a given set of circumstances.” Viktor Frankl

Viktor Frankl’s words stand true for all situations, you don’t need to have experienced tragedy or negative circumstances to be able to turn what you have now into something you enjoy.  If you choose to view freedom as something that is easy to achieve, it will be easy to achieve.

You are free to choose your attitude, feelings and thoughts at any moment.  It’s also your choice how you share them with those around you.  Nobody has control over you.  You are your navigator, captain and master.  For some people this can be frightening.  For others this is enlightening.  Taking responsibility for yourself means you take responsibility for all your results, good, bad or otherwise.  There is no one to blame when you realise you are free.

Notice throughout your day, where you freely choose to do and think things.  Also notice when you don’t, and reassess whether you did in fact have a choice.  Did anyone else make you respond or act in that way?  Can another person or circumstances force you to choose one thing over another?  Or does it come from yourself internally?  Who is really in control of your thinking, feeling and sensing?  Your subconscious mind is more powerful than any person outside of you.  This being the case, you have the freedom and power to choose what’s right for you in any situation.

Sometimes it’s a bitter pill to swallow, and those who have not chosen freedom argue that their circumstances are such that they have no choice.  There is always more than one option.  Do you or don’t you?  Can or can’t, should or shouldn’t, will or won’t?  There is also the choice to do, think or say nothing.  You are free to make any of those choices at any time and in actual fact, you do that anyway.

Do you intend a life of freedom?  A life guided by design is more rewarding than a life by chance.  The choice is yours.

Life is a journey...

Robyn Simpson - Thursday, February 24, 2011
Life is a journey made up of one step at a time.  Each step takes us in a direction that we have chosen, consciously or subconsciously.  Some steps happen quickly, some happen slowly, some are up hill, some are downhill. You may find yourself taking a left or a right turn, or perhaps moving straight ahead.  The key is to keep moving and enjoy every step.

Life is not about the destination but the experiences along the way.

So Robyn, where are you heading

What effect are you creating?

Robyn Simpson - Monday, February 21, 2011
What effect are you creating?

Imagine a normal day for you. How many people do you come in contact with? At home, in the workplace, in the community? You are having an effect on every one of those people. Is it the effect you want?

What you do or say creates a Ripple Effect that reaches far beyond the immediate response. The Ripple Effect refers to the effect you have on people and things around you, and the flow on effect from that. Imagine a pebble being dropped into a pond. The effect of the pebble dropping creates the effect of concentric ripples on the water.

Stop and think about the ripples you create in a day. For example, if a mother takes her child to sports practice there are a series of events, feelings and possibilities that flow on from that. Mum could meet a person who can potentially have a very positive impact on her life, she feels good about being involved with the child’s interests, and the child feels loved and supported. On the flipside, inaction is also an action. If this mother didn’t go to sports practice the ripple effect would undoubtedly be different.

Neither is right or wrong, good or bad. The reality is, for everything we do, there is always an effect.

How aware are you?
Imagine your day again. What effect are you having on yourself and the people around you? Most people don’t consciously think about this, however, the fact is our success is shown in our results. Is there any part of your day where you would like a better result?

In order to be the best you can possibly be, and achieve great results, you need to be aware of how you affect everything around you and what effect this in turn induces. The starting point is always with you. The phrase, get the inside right and the outside will follow is very true.

Think of a person who you think has achieved great results. What’s the difference between you and them? Very little I suspect. The common thread amongst people I have worked with over the years is, the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little bit extra. People who create extraordinary results are fundamentally no different from you or I. They have simply taken the initiative to gain extra empowering knowledge and habits that help them create extraordinary results.

Here are three simple suggestions to help you create extraordinary results:

1. Get the inside right. Learn about yourself. Why do you react in certain ways? What patterns are directing your behaviours? Learn how you can change less empowering reactions.

The biggest benefit to learning about yourself is that you improve your self-esteem as you start experiencing positive results, and the secondary benefit is you begin to notice other people react to you differently. You may have heard the phrase ‘In order for others to change, first I must change’. It’s very true. You can’t control anything other than yourself. People are going to react how they react. Work on changing yourself and you will get a different reaction.

2. Invest in yourself. Get a great coach. I’ve worked with several coaches over the years because I am fully aware that I know what I know, so to learn new things, I need to learn from others. A great coach will hold you to your highest standard at all times. Sometimes this is not comfortable however discomfort indicates you are entering new zones of learning. I would not have achieved the results I have today as quickly as I have without learning from others and allowing myself to be coached.

3. Become an active learner. If you want different results, take different actions. Put new learning into action. How can you truly know something if you haven’t experienced it? Most people don’t act on what they learn – this simple point can be the little bit extra that makes the difference for you.

The key to extraordinary results
Take responsibility for your results. Our success in everyday situations is given to us immediately in the reactions of others. Take note of the reactions. If they are not what you want, ask yourself how you could handle that differently to get a different result.

There is a technique used in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) called Self Editing. This technique helps you re-imagine your day, assess the results and ‘edit’ the things you would like to have handled better. The purpose of a process like this is to create a new option for your subconscious mind next time this situation occurs.

We are powerful. We create our reality with our thoughts and actions. Until we learn how to consciously recognise our patterns (mental, emotional, behavioural and linguistic) we are helpless to change them so they serve us.

The most important person we can affect is ourselves. What effect are you having?

What are we missing?

Robyn Simpson - Monday, February 14, 2011
What are we missing?

How often do you truly live in the present moment? Many people dwell on the past, others are continuously looking to the future. How good are you at living in now?

Recently I had the pleasure of catching up with a girl friend who had just returned from an overseas holiday. I love travel, and I love listening to people’s adventures. I feel a sense of freedom when traveling and exploring. During our conversation a question was raised: "Why don’t we live with that sense of freedom and appreciation all the time?”

Imagine yourself on holiday… in an idyllic place or space, magically relaxing, doing only what you love. Imagine who is with you, the smells, sights and sounds. Pressures are eliminated. You can choose what ever you want to do at any given moment. Hear the laughter and music, smell the aromas of food and flora. Imagine the best holiday ever!

How often is your life like that? Is that something you want more of? If so, let’s look at how you can make that happen.

Assessing the gap
Look at your usual every day life. How different is it from the perfect holiday you’ve just imagined? Consider every aspect and on a scale of 1 – 10 assess each area of daily life against your ideal state of living you experience on holiday. For example, take laughter. How much laughter do you have in your daily life compared to your ideal life? Measure each on a scale so you can give it some perspective. If your ideal life has just the right amount of laughter – rate it as 10. Rate your daily laughter against that.

Continue this process with other areas that are important to you. For example, spending time with family, reading a magazine, doing new things, sitting and relaxing, or exploring...

Creating more
Now take a look at your list and ask yourself "How can I create this on a daily basis?” Brainstorm as many ways as possible for each area. Let ideas flow without judgment. Allow your subconscious mind to present ideas over the next day or two. Write them down. Go for at least 10 ways to achieve each one and make them compelling.

It is helpful to get in touch with the feeling of having the desired state while you do this exercise. If you can create the feeling you will be more creative and motivated to find ways to achieve it easily.

Busting blocks
Take the top five feelings or experiences and ask yourself "What prevents me having more of this in my everyday life?”

It is important to do this in a non-judgmental way. Be completely honest with yourself. No criticizing allowed. Check if what prevents you is an excuse. Remember the purpose of this exercise is to help you experience more of what you really want now.

For more information on blocks and how to bust them, check out www.choosethetude.com/Free/Articles.html and look up the Goals are Dreams with Deadlines articles.

Final step
Act as if you already have these things happening in your every day life. How would life be if you really did live in the moment, enjoying all the things you want and love right now? What would you be doing?

What have you been missing? Why save the good things for special occasions? Special occasions may not happen. Today is a special occasion for you to enjoy, so fill it with everything you enjoy. It’s your choice.

We are free to choose our experience daily. Since the conversation with my friend I have begun to choose to experience ‘now’ all the time.

I still have dreams for the future, and I sometimes look at the past. What’s important is that I know I’m choosing this and I can choose what’s good about now, now!

Simple techniques like this are very powerful. Life is meant to be simple. So what are you missing?

Final tip… A great way to start your day is to consciously choose your attitude so it starts off positively. Our ‘Smell the Roses’ range can help you get in the mood to relax and take time to appreciate the simple things in life and enjoy ‘now’. For inspiration in this area click here...
